Dr. Ilona Balseičė has been practicing law for over 18 years, her main specialization is asylum law, migration and European Convention on Human Rights cases. As an Attorney-at-law, he has achieved important achievements in the Constitutional Court, the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union. She is also a legal scholar, associate professor at the Institute of International and European Union Law of Mykolas Romeris University, and has written a number of scientific publications, especially in the field of asylum law. Laurynas is a former judge of the Court of Honour of Advocates and a member of the Audit Commission of the Bar Association and a co-author of the book "The Law of the Bar Association". 

Dr. Ilona Balseičė also participates in various international and national research in the fields of migration and human rights, gives lectures and conducts trainings both in Lithuania and at foreign universities.  Ilona herself defended her dissertation on the problem of the application of the concept of refugee, and he also led the research of Aistė Račkauskaitė-Burneikienė's dissertation "Linguistic Guarantees of Persons Belonging to National Minorities: Implementation of International Standards in the Republic of Lithuania" and the research of Ilona Šaltė's dissertation "Problems of the Legal Regulation of the Return of Illegally Staying Foreigners: Non-refoulement and the Return of Foreigners" and leads the research of Monika Dumbrytė-Ožiūnienė's dissertation "The Right to a Fair Trial in the Administrative Process: The Problem of the Application of the Standards Established in International Human Rights Documents in the Administrative Process of the Republic of Lithuania".
